FAQ: FAQ

HOW MUCH DO THE GAMES COST?

Each 2-hour session costs £6 and must be pre-booked via the Spond app.

We have between 2 and 5 courts per 2-hour session and attendance is capped to ensure a fair number of games.

We use ebadders.com to automatically pick games with balanced pairings.

We use Yonex AS20 feathered shuttles.

WHAT DAYS DO YOU PLAY?

We currently hold our sessions on:

  • Tuesdays 8.30 - 10.30pm (Easton Sports Centre)

  • Wednesdays 8.00 - 10.00pm (Kingsdown Sports Centre)

  • Thursdays 8 - 10pm (Kingsdown Sports Centre)

CAN ANYONE JOIN?

UPDATE 16/02/2024:

We had to pause new players joining as our sessions were over-subscribed. We have now opened back up again. Please complete this short form. We will then be in touch with how to attend our sessions.

--------------------------------------------------------

We are a social LGBTQ+ Badminton club which offers a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to enjoy the sport whilst making new friends.

We are open to anyone regardless of badminton ability, sexual orientation, gender, race or religion.

We are a mixed-ability club and focus on doubles badminton. All players are welcome, no matter if you are new to the game, play at the highest level, or like most of us are somewhere in between.

We hold monthly coaching sessions and the dates will be announced on Spond. We also hold in-house tournaments several times a year - this is a great way to play competitive games and win medals in a friendly atmosphere.

Once you have attended 3 sessions, if you wish to continue playing then you’ll need to become a member of
the club.
This costs £25 per year and will affiliate you with Badminton England, as well as provide insurance, enable you to join the Swifts members page and group chat on Facebook, as well as attend the social events.

Sessions are available to book two weeks in advance. They can sell out quickly, but there is a waiting list process, and many of these players often get spaces, so don't be disheartened, and keep an eye on the app.

Players should bring their own racquet. If you don't yet have one, then racquets are available at our sessions: please send us a message in advance if you require this. Feather shuttlecocks are provided at all of our sessions.

All players are required to wear appropriate sports kit, including shoes with non-marking soles.

If you have booked a session and are unable to attend, please use the 'message hosts' button on the Spond event. If we have more than 24 hours notice, then you will get a free credit for a future session. If under 24 hours, we do our very best to fill the space, and you then get a credit. Please refrain from booking and then no-showing, as it will deprive someone on the waiting list from joining.
